Played in Bern: the final of the Football World Cup in 1954, with victory going to Germany.

Developed in Bern : the solar wind sail, installed on the moon during the moon landing of Apollo 11 in 1969.
 

Bern's Way into the Modern Age

 

What has made the present what it is today? The Exhibition is a journey through time, tracing the development of Switzerland 's constitutional process and the history of Bern in the 19th and 20th century.

 

Comprising objects, documents, film clips, computer animations and audio links, the exhibition extends over an area of 1250 sq m, and offers a twofold view of the history of Bern:

 

The journey through time begins with the end of the ancien régime in 1798 and describes the various periods and landmark developments that have exerted an influence on Bern's way into the modern age.

In the second part of the exhibition over 100 pioneering deeds, events or persons are presented. They not only permit exciting discoveries and amusing memories, but also reflect the changing times and the development of Bern's economy, environment and society.
