New Dimensions – Extension to the Historisches Museum in Bern

A 2 million franc donation from the Abegg Foundation for an extension to the museum enabled an international architectural competition for the urgently needed annex to be held in the year 2000.

The «KUBUS/TITAN» winning project, submitted by the Biel-based architectural practice :mlzd, convinces both from a structural and from a functional point of view. The plan comprises a large exhibition room (1000 sq m) with roof terrace, a floor allocated to storerooms and office space for the Historisches Museum itself, as well as offices and a library with reading room for the City Archive, which is also included in the new extension.
